Book Recs

The Road Before Us by Janine Rosche

I doubt I’ll read another book in 2024 that is so beautifully written as The Road Before Us. Janine Rosche has crafted a masterpiece, weaving multiple timelines together to present a seamless story of grace and redemption. She managed to include so many of my favorite things: forced proximity romance, mid-century charm, Old Hollywood, and The Eagles. This was definitely a 5 star read for me.

I loved how the peeks into the past showed us how Benny and Paul fell in love along Route 66 as they parallel Jade and Bridger’s journey. As if two spectacular romances weren’t enough, Rosche layers in the story of Jade’s traumatic childhood and how it shaped her. This book is rich, descriptive, and bursting with points to ponder. I could see it being a great book club pick.

Dear Henry, Love Edith by Becca Kinzer

This rom-com, a finalist for this year’s Carol Award for a debut author, is next on my listen-to list!

He Should Have Told the Bees by Amanda Cox

Another Carol Award finalist, this one has been on my list since before it came out. I can’t wait to read it. It’s a contemporary novel, not really a romance, and based on Amanda Cox’s other books, I know it will be a winner.

Healthy Living

I’m loving this walking pad that I bought last month. I have doubled my daily step count. It’s quiet and slides right under the bed when I’m finished. I’m a fair weather walker, so being indoors is optimal for me.

I’ve dropped about twenty pounds since January, and one key practice for me has been having a tasty snack option when I’m hungry. For me, that is popcorn. I throw 1/4 cup of kernels in a brown paper bag and pop it into the microwave. I spray my popcorn with this butter flavor spray and sprinkle generously with this seasoning for a guilt free treat! Butter is my favorite flavor, but I haven’t disliked any of them!

Beauty Buys

I have used just about every single makeup brand out there, from the cheapest to the priciest. Here are my favorite bargain finds that I think are top of the line and leave their pricier competitors in the dust!

My new favorite foundation is Maybelline Super Stay. For under $5, this is the best kept secret out there. It stays on all day and looks great. I did have to go a shade darker than I normally might, but I love the finish!

I love Milani products in general but their Baked Blush is my go to. Great color and staying power!

I thought Revlon stopped making my favorite lip color but they haven’t! I adore Revlon Kiss Plumping Lip Creme in spiced berry, but velvet mink is great, too. For $4, why choose????

Let me know what you think about the Weekly Wishlist! Happy shopping!
